Starting a conversation
Simple openers that feel natural on a sidewalk, in a park, or at a bus stop.
Start as a person
Smile, say hello, and ask a simple question. People respond to someone kind more than to a speech.
Openers that work
- "Hi, we're from a church in the neighborhood. Is there anything we can pray for you about today?"
- "We're giving out cards with a message of hope. Can I give you one?"
- "What does this neighborhood need most?"
Read the moment
If someone is in a hurry, wish them a good day and move on. A kind "no" is still a good encounter. Never block someone's way or insist.
To practice
Practice two of these openers out loud with your buddy.
Read the passages
They open in an online Bible, in your language.
